Review
Church and Synagogue Libraries: "Among the scams uncovered last year was that of the New Era Foundation. Spreading good will by its promise of matching funds from wealthy, anonymous philanthropies (all non-existent), this phony foundation plunged some 300 creditors into an aggregate loss of about $551 million. Many were Christian organizations that had turned over much-needed reserves to New Era. Had Kathryn Lindskoog written this book in 1995, she would have used the New Era debacle as a prime example of misplaced trust. Even without it, she has no shortage of material to support her notion that tricking others is easy and widespread. She provides story after story showing the broad gamut of deception from childhood pretense to carefully plotted fraud. Some accounts tickle the funny bone; others are no laughing matter. Taken as a whole, they demonstrate how people bypass intuition, common sense, warnings, factual data, even criminal records, and let themselves be duped, sometimes with dire consequences. Beyond its entertainment value, 'Fakes, Frauds and Other Malarkey' aims at educating readers about the land mines in the purported fields of truth-telling. By describing the ingenious ways that human beings deceive each other, the author erects a 'Reader, Beware' sign. Reinforcing this warning are observations and advice from a variety of sources, including the author and the Bible., In reflecting on the New Era fiasco, church leaders and lay persons wondered how intelligent, well-informed boards could have bought into this pyramid scheme. Although Lindskoog's book does not supply an answer for each case, it demonstrates the folly of gullibility and the need for watchdog oversight. It might even deter the sheep-clad wolf from consuming the household of God.

A Review by someone who has read the book!
By S. Rushton
This book is a good book to read to get a sense about how we are fooled. Lindskoog brings from the simpliest way are fooled vis a vis hide and seek we learned as a child to some of the most vitriolic falshood perpetrated for the sake of self agrandizment. I recommend Amazon remove the 2 star review as they give no sense of the content of the book so one can make an inteligent choice. It is obvious the prejudice of the other reviews. Get this book for a fun read!

Good Study of Different Frauds
By Matthew Faulkerson
A good study of frauds but she is a christian theological teacher so you can expect and will see a little trashing of evoloution and science for example on page 26 she states support for the creationist position. Referring to things such as Darwinism and Evoloutionism these are only words that creationists use. Quoted: "reporters tend to assume that anyone who opposes_Darwinism_must believe in a flat earth: it is a battle between religious dogma and scientific fact, but that is malarkey it is usually a battle between religious dogma and cultural dogma masquerading as science." So shes admitting that seperation of church and state should be knocked down...or am I misreading this? Continued: "One does not have to be a fundamentalist to see that popular_Evoloutionism_(in contrast to evoloution) is as morally bankrupt as Marxism."
I cannot understand how someone who writes a book on frauds accepts and supports the fraud that creationism is in that in tries to push its way into the science classroom by any means neccessary, whether its by lying or outright fraud. I must mention that Evoloutionism is a creationist-invented term that scientists do not use, creationists use it to refer to ALL sciences (cosmology, geology, palentology) not just biology the definition may of been different back when this book was published but I highly doubt it since creationism IS religion and does not change much. Her argument is a straw man in that she is purposely misrepresenting the position of scientists there are no evoloutionists or darwinists anymore. Darwinism at best was a blending of the theory of natural selection and racist ideas of the early 1900s which was done by Herbert Spenser and not Darwin which has gone the way of the dinosaur.
I still give it three stars because I find the religious overtones, support of creationism, and the use of the bible references at the end (a book full of things that are wrong) to be a little dissonant, however it still can be a good read.
