About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from the family home and studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

Community effor in a flood even for kids!

I'm floundering a little bit because I know I wrote a review for this one but I cannot seem to find it. Alas, I'll try again.

This book is all about community involvement and showing that even children can lend a hand and help when it's needed. There is a flood in bear country and the cubs do not seem to notice until it involves someone they known in cousin Fred, which makes it real and alive for them. Which is so true to us all in our closed off little worlds. We hear about natural disasters but they seem to just be facts we hear until it affects us either directly or through someone we know. For our family we personally live up hill, but near an area that has had some devastating flooding in the last two years. We watched the news cautiously and heard about community heroes stacking sand bags in the wet and danger to save the city from the rising river. having books like this one that cannot only explain what is happening, but to turn it into an example of how we can help (as the kids get older) and look at the promises from God and our future is great. I, for one, am very content with the Christian Living Lights Berenstain Bears books and this is a good one.

Religious

My children and I absolutely love the Berenstain Bears. However, these newer books are written by their son (I believe) and have a lot of religious references. Instead of the "inspirational" saying / motto in the front, there is a reference to different parts of the bible. As we are not religious (hence I'm not sure how to say what the references are from - ie. New Testament, Psalms, proverbs???) I find it distracting. I do read it aloud with my children and never skip any of the religious references because I feel it's fine for them to hear about in books. I just prefer the original Berenstains Bears books. Where they had the same message, but did not include religious references in it.

A wonderful children's book!

Brother and Sister Bear are back in a new adventure, along with the Cub Club they attend at the Chapel in the Woods. The Cub Club, led by Preacher Brown, loves to have fun together playing games or going on picnics, but they also enjoy helping others around Bear Country. One day, a storm hits town, and as the river quickly rises, Bear Country is at risk of flooding! Bear family and the Cub Club at Chapel in the Woods must band together to rescue those in need in their community.
My children were very excited to gather around as we dove into this latest story about The Berenstain Bears. Over the years, they have come to treasure reading about these remarkable bears who are always up to something or other, and "Get Involved" has joined the list of their much-loved Berestain Bears books. Colourful pictures and an action-packed story made for a mesmerizing read as their eyes took in the story unfolding before them. The authors have done a great job at creating a story that not only will appeal to young readers, but also brings to life the Biblical truth of being kind to the needy, and striving to do what is good for each other and for everyone else (1 Thessalonians 5:15). I also appreciated the list of questions accompanying the story that are designed to help your little ones think further about the story, as well as some suggested activities that are provided, such as going out as a family and getting involved in an act of service (i.e. helping collect items for a food drive). This book is definitely a keeper!
I give this book a solid recommendation and award it 4 out of 5 stars. If you are looking for a children's book that will appeal to the 4-7 year old in your life, then plan on picking up this book!
