"Prayer" is one of my favorite books. Though this guide is based on it

Philip Yancey's, "Prayer" is one of my favorite books. Though this guide is based on it, it bears little resemblance to it. I taught this study in a class and was very disappointed that the things I loved most about the book are totally absent from the study material. The DVD shows some breathtaking scenery in the background but Yancey's brief comments are little more than a devotion. He makes some good points but only skims the surface of the deep truths that he deals with in-depth in the book. The workbook was also not what I had hoped for but I continued to use it through the study as I did the DVD. But what I did that was most effective was to have certain passages read from the hardback and we discussed those. It would have been just as useful to have only done that. I will not likely teach this study again. But I do highly recommend the hardback book.

Interesting group study

Good group study on prayer and Yancey has an interesting perspective. The videos are excellent and present thoughtful material. Study questions could be deeper.

We've done other prayer studies and this one is the best. It's interactive and less "video" than we thought ...

We used this in a bi-weekly women's Bible study. We've done other prayer studies and this one is the best. It's interactive and less "video" than we thought it would be. But starting and stopping the video to work through the lesson is great. Philip Yancey gives many great thoughts and Bible verses for everyone to take it to whatever level is best for them. If you only watch the video, you'll be challenged with a thought or way to pray; if you do the Participant Guide and DVD, you get more verses and ideas on how to pray; But if you read his book and do the guide/DVD is is by far the best way to get the most from the study - especially if you are leading/facilitating the study. The book is full of wisdom!
