About the Author
John Ortberg is the senior pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church (MPPC) in the San Francisco Bay Area. His bestselling books include Soul Keeping, Who Is This Man?, and If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get out of the Boat. John teaches around the world at conferences and churches, writes articles for Christianity Today and Leadership Journal, and is on the board of the Dallas Willard Center and Fuller Seminary. Disappointed in Very Good Material

I have read "The Me I Want To Be" three times now - once in hard-copy and twice in audio. I love the book and have recommended it to literally hundreds of people and presently have about eight different "small groups" using the materials (Adult Version). I especially love listening to the Ortburg read is own book.
With that said, however, I was terribly disappointed in the Youth Version of the small group materials.
The videos are nothing more than a talking head quoting short excerpts from the book and what is worse, the young, hip "talking head" (who substitutes for Ortburg who talks in the adult version) simply reads the same basic script that the Adult Version has. I could see very little different.
Additionally the background video (what I would call the "color" or attention getting portions) that use the motorcycle motif had little if any real connection to the older teens that I had watch the videos with me.
Again, the book is a great book, but the small group video was a great disappointment.

Good content, bad presentation

The content is pretty good, but the video presentations are boring and not very accessible to youth. Scott Rubin simply reads off some quotes from the book one after another. The concepts are not fleshed out with stories or applications. It is like someone is reading you 10 interesting points in a row. I'm a couple of weeks in and have to bail on the curriculum kit. I might salvage some of the material and create my own sessions but as it is the material is not going to work.
