About the Author
Phyllis is Area Director for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Chicago West. She is a speaker and the author or coauthor of a number of books for InterVarsity, including Ephesians, Wholeness for a Broken World, and the Resources for the Coping Christian Series. She and her husband, Andy, live in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Jack Kuhatschek is executive vice-president and publisher for Baker Publishing Group, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is the author of numerous Bible study guides and the books Applying the Bible and The Superman Syndrome.

Don't Expect Any Scholarly Studies

In my opinion, the studies place too much emphasis on emotion and opinion instead of facts. For example, in Study 13, 'Coping with Anxiety', PHILIPPIANS 4:4-9, the first study question is "1. What sorts of things make you feel anxious?". Another question is "7. Give specific examples of the kinds of good things you might think about to combat anxiety.".
In my opinion, the book glosses over the main meaning of the scripture in several places. For example in Study 15 'Finding Peace in God's Presence' PSALM 46, the study misses the end-times context of Psalm 45 through Psalm 48 which is a prophecy of God's future kingdom which will be established in Jerusalem. Psalm 46 talks about "peace" only after God destroys the kingdoms of "the beast" (See Revelation 17 & 18).

This is an amazing study! Do it with a friend or a group.

I am working on this study with my sister, she uses the paperback book, I use the kindle version. I like having all of my books in one place, on my little lap top but my sister wants books with pages. This is an amazing study that helps me understand about the Holy Spirit living in me. I have every fruit of the Spirit, with this and a Bible I can learn to use them in my everyday life.
