About the Author
Dennis Jones loves to draw. His artwork can be seen in books, magazines, games, toys and Sunday school curriculum. He’s illustrated several children’s products including the Read with Me Bible and the NIrV Super Heroes Bible. Dennis lives in Indiana with his wife Karen and has two grown sons.

Good biblical account (with big hair for good measure)

This is one of the I Can Read! books from Zonderkidz. The series this one is from is the Bible characters' one, and each of those stories - including this one about David - are consistent with the accounts found in the Bible. My daughter has recently decided that she won't read any books other than beginning reader ones, so I'm happy to have a couple of Bible stories that meet that standard. :)
The only pet peeves:
1)The hair. Oh, my. The hair! Look at the cover picture of David, and you'll see what I mean. Crazy hair features prominently in most of these books (because they used the same illustrator, Dennis Jones, for all of them). It seems that Jesus and Noah are the only ones who are spared the wild manes.
2) Throughout the story, it says David has a slingshot. It was a sling, not a slingshot. However, the pictures show a sling, and he uses it like a sling rather than a slingshot, so it's only a minor error.
We love this, and I love that my daughter is learning about David's - actually, God's - victory over Goliath.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, these are Level 2 in the I Can Read! Rating, described as being for children who are "Reading With Help" with "engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers."
(I did receive this for review from Zonderkidz, but that didn't affect my review and they didn't ask for anything but my honest opinion, which this is.)

Love the whole collection

I love it because even though the story is simplified for children to understand, it does not lose content and is Biblical sound. Also, I've been looking for books that would engage my children's attention, and they absolutely love the pictures, colors and all the details in every page. I am very happy with this collection, and I wish there were more books, specially on the OT prophets.

What smalol boy would like David

I Can Read Books, made it easy for children to read and understand the Bible stories. Boy's love David and how brave he was. It make it fun for them to read by themselves or to a family member, teacher, or librarian. We love these books in our school. This is also a book on the AR read level list ( for teachers).
