Nancy Rue has written over 100 books for girls, is the editor of the Faithgirlz Bible, and is a popular speaker and radio guest with her expertise in tween and teen issues. She and husband, Jim, have raised a daughter of their own and now live in Tennessee.

A fun book to read...even for an adult

This book is a fun read whether you're 12 or 40. There are underlying messages in the story, but it's not preachy. It's well written to the point where you almost feel like you're there with Lucy watching everything unfold. This book offers a lot of "perspective".

enjoyed reading this book

Because my daughter's reading level is much higher than her maturity level, I often read books in an effort to find ones that are appropriate for her. I thought this one was great, but it does deal with several "heavy" issues: Lucy's mom is dead, racial tensions between Hispanics and non-Hispanics, child abuse (though it is not called this in the book so I'm not sure a child who hasn't dealt with that would pick up on it), and disability. That said, the book itself is not heavy and I felt it touched on these issues in a way that is appropriate for a variety of ages. I like that it has a bible story tied in and discussed in a personalized/ down to earth way (Ruth). I also like that the Christian aspect isn't overpowering -- its more novel than Christian book. I look forward to reading the next book.

I knew the second I started this book that this was a book for kids younger than I, but I couldn't resist digging into this book. Quite frankly, I loved it. I loved the character Lucy who reminded me of my sister so much. The story was well written and the child-like faith of Lucy shows how faith is supposed to be. Completely trustful. I also saw myself in Lucy like when she always tries to figure out how to fix something and then go to God when she can't. Inez's response was dead on and insightful. For any parent that wants to mix faith with fiction for their kids, I highly recommend this book and any like it
