With their strong emphasis on traditional family values, education, discipline, and service, Mormons sound and look more "Christian" than many believers. At first glance, there seems to be little to criticize in what they say or do. But peel back the façade, and you find a cult with its roots in immorality and heresy. The story of the Mormon Church is one of in-fighting, racism, polygamy, and violence. Often, even the members of the group don’t know the full truth about either the history or the teachings of this fast-growing church. -- Why this series? This is an age when countless groups and movements, old and new, mark the religious landscape in our culture, leaving many people confused or uncertain in their search for spiritual truth and meaning. Because few people have the time or opportunity to research these movements fully, these books provide essential information and insights for their spiritual journeys. Each book has five sections: - A concise introduction to the group - An overview of the group's theology--in its own words - Tips for witnessing effectively to members of the group - A bibliography with sources for further study - A comparison chart that shows the essential differences between biblical Christianity and the group -- The writers of these volumes are well qualified to present clear and reliable information and help us discern religious truth from falsehood.

An excellent resource
By Daniel Mark Donovan
Perhaps the best feature of this book is the fact that it is structured as one large outline. This makes the material extremely easy to follow. It also allows for individual subjects to be accessed easily. For example, if one is looking for information on "The Nature of God" (an important topic when dealing with the LDS), they will have little trouble finding the information because the book has a format that is user-friendly.
If you enjoy "doing" counter-cult apologetics, I cannot think of any resource I would give a higher recommendation to than this one. It has the three key features everyone should look for...1) an easy to follow format; 2) an objective presentation of the particular false teaching being discussed; and 3) a solid, Biblically-based refutation that can be appreciated by the Pastor, as well as the layman.

I have to say this is a good foundation for understanding the difference the historic Christian faith ...
By William Kimbler
Having been an eighth generation member of the LDS church and for well over 20 years, I have to say this is a good foundation for understanding the difference the historic Christian faith and the doctrine and history of the LDS church. It is broken down into subsections so that you can pin point exactly what you are looking for. In fact this will be my third time buying it because I have given my copies away to people who had family members in the church.

It answered all of my questions! I'm now a Christian. Thanx

I read this book with great interest after a friend encouraged me to get it. I was taking LDS missionary lessons, but after reading this book, I found that there was much more that the LDS did not tell me than what they had told me. This book told me the rest of the untold story. I am now a Christian and I am thankful that I did not get caught up in the tangled web of LDS theology that goes far beyond what God gave us in the Bible. Thanks, Zondervan, for this series. Bob D.
