Almost exactly what I was looking for
By mebwm90
I purchased this for my 11 year old son (6th grade) who has began asking me, his mother, questions about puberty. My husband is a full-time firefighter so he is not around a lot and so I get the brunt of my kid's questions. Since I did not go through a boy's version and never heard my brothers talk about it I decided to get some books to prepare myself and my son for what to look for etc. I quickly read through the points in the book. Although this is more "G" rated than the other two I purchased I am still going to hold of on giving it to him. It talks about Masturbation and, although he knows what sex is, he is still naive in this category. I feel like we are still a year or two from him going through puberty and I will hang onto it until I feel he is more mature to handle new information he will gain from this. One area I didn't appreciate was the take on piercings and tattoos. I don't feel like that has anything to do with puberty so I am not quite sure why it was added in. Neither my husband nor I have tattoos and I do have my ears pierced. I do not feel like those things are a sin. I know plenty of Christian men and women with one or both. If it wasn't for the masturbation and section on body piercings/tattoos I would have given this a five star rating. Other than those two sections I felt like everything else was age appropriate for him.

Just got this book the other day, I had read the previous reviews and knew it was from a Christian perspective, however, the first chapter I skimmed through was that masterbation is wrong. I want my children to grow up comfortable with their bodies and not ashamed or guilty for things that are natural to most teenage boys. Will be returning!

Mostly helpful, but really awkwardly framed story.
By Corn Farmer
It addresses everything I want to address at a good level for my kids' young age level. It isn't too detailed for younger kids, but opens the door to getting the convo started in a light, approachable manner. It's a Christian perspective, but not too opinionated or preachy. My biggest beef with the book is the approach from the perspective of a lint ball named: Lintball Leo. O.k. does nobody else find the following just a wee bit over the top?

"How long have you been living in my bellybutton?" Steve asked.
"Oh, I've been around a few years. Sometimes when you tried to clean your belly-button, you knocked me down to other parts of your body," Leo told Steve. "I've visited your feet once, and while it was nice to see my relatives who live down between your toes, I think I'd rather live in your belly button. . . . Relax, Steve. It's no big deal. All guys have a little extra dirt here and there. Hey! I've been most everywhere on your body, and I'm becoming an expert in boy-body anatomy. I'll be hanging around until you reach puberty. Then you won't need me anymore and I'll find another boy's belly button to call home."
---
Sorry, I just found that a little bit creepy. I mean, I'm a woman, so maybe I'm just having trouble connecting to what resonates with boys. But: "I've been most everywhere on your body, and I'm becoming and expert in boy body anatomy". Is there no other way to frame the characters here? None?
