There are strong women figures as well (such as the prophet Deborah), making this version appealing to girls as well as boys. More than 400 "Power Surge" sections, highlighted in yellow, spotlight Scripture verses with superhero virtues that kids can adopt for their own. The NIrV is an easy-to-read version of the New International Version written at the third grade level. This version is printed in purple type, which might look a little wild to an adult, but is probably offbeat enough to appeal to its intended age group. Jean E. Syswerda is a former editor and associate publisher for Zondervan Bibles. She helped produce such bestselling Bibles as the NIV Women's Devotional Bible. General editor of the Women of Faith Study Bible and A Mom's Ordinary Day Bible Study Series, she is the author of the Women's Devotional Guide to the Bible and coauthor of the bestselling Read With Me Bible. Great for Boys

I purchased this bible for my six year old son. He loves it. He can read it independently and the pictures highlighting the heroes are really cool. I like how they have given a code to the hero qualities and them apply them to the different heros. Great bible for boys.

God's Word, Not a Fairy Tale!

HE LOVES IT! He's so happy to have a REAL bible that has ALL the same verses as mine, and not just a story book for little kids.

I recently purchased a Super Heroes Bible for my 6yr old. It is NOT a story book bible. It is the complete 66 books of the bible in the NIrV translation. First let me explain that the main difference between the different English translations of the Bible is the reading level by grade. Here are a few examples.
King James Version (KJV) 9.52
New King James Version (NKJV) 8.47
English Standard Version (ESV) 7.9
New International Version (NIV) 7.08
Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) 6.51
The Message (MSG) 4.73
New Living Translation (NLT) 4.72

New International Reader's Version (NIrV) 1.94
The theme of the Super Heroes Bible is Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It uses the characters of the Bible to show how ordinary people did extraordinary things for God by using the super hero "powers" that are a gift from God. These powers are really just character traits like: Belief, Bravery, Cheer, Faith, Forgiveness, Giving, Helpfulness, Honesty, Kindness, Loving, Obedience, Patience, Self-Control, Strength, Evangelism (Tell Others), Thankfulness, Persistence (Try Hard), Trustworthiness, and Wisdom. Heroes are the characters that use their powers for God's glory.
After reading through the list of Super Hero powers, my son quickly realized that he can be a super hero for God too! So I made him a chart based on the 19 character traits used in this Bible and I let him color in his super hero power meter to help him identify his personal strengths and weaknesses. He knows that only Jesus Christ has a full power meter in all categories, and none of us can ever be perfect, but with God`s help, we can imitate Jesus, and in doing so, we can each be a Super Hero for God.
Creating his own meter is the perfect way to teach him to PRAISE God for the powers he has, and to PRAY to God for the powers he needs. I highly recommend this Bible as a wonderful resource for all parents who want to give their kids a genuine love for God's word and to keep them from lumping scripture in with other fairy tales they might learn in their childhood.

Awesome children's bible...superb artwork!

I have been teaching Sunday school for several years and I am always on the lookout for tools to use with the kids I work with. Not only is this Bible written in easy to understand language, it has Dennis Jones artwork! Can't beat that. Dennis Jones has one of the most unique views on biblical artwork/cartooning that I have seen in a long time...and kids love it! Since this is a Super Heroes Bible, it shows Bible characters in that form. Moses has huge muscles, Samson is bigger than life, David is bold, etc. But best of all...no wimpy Jesus with long blond hair (He was Jewish, remember). Jesus looks happy, confident, loving children and approachable. That's the Jesus that I want my kids to see. This Bible is a must have if you have kids or work in children's ministry. I have used the artwork in this Bible to decorate our Vacation Bible School and also our Sunday school walls. I plan on using more Dennis Jones artwork for our new curriculum this fall. I love this Bible.
