About the Author
Barry Moser is the prizewinning illustrator and designer of nearly three hundred books for children and adults. He is widely celebrated for his dramatic wood engravings for the only twentieth-century edition of the entire King James Bible illustrated by a single artist. He is the Printer to the College at Smith College where he is Professor in Residence in the department of art. His work can be found in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC; the Metropolitan Museum; and The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, among scores of other libraries and collections. He lives in western Massachusetts.

Stunning Good Shepherd Psalm set in modern day Antigua. LOVE IT!

Psalm 23 is a favorite at our house and all of our kids have put it to memory by their 2nd year. We've developed a collection of sorts of Psalm 23 books over the years. I was drawn to the cover, and as I was flipping through it it reminded me very much of my childhood. I grew up in the Caribbean, as the daughter of a Lutheran missionary. At the end of the book the artist thanks Akimba Thomas, the boy who posed for the illustrations, from Willikies Village, Antigua... Antigua is MY island! No wonder it looked so familiar! In fact just 5 days after discovering this book my husband and I are taking our 4 kids there and this book is coming with us. I'm hoping to find Akimba and his family to see if they will autograph our copy!
Obviously we have a very personal connection to this book, but it would be well loved by anyone. The combination of the beautiful comfort offered in Psalm 23 (NIV version for those of you who are wondering--that's the only thing I would change, I love the poetic King James version for Psalm 23 and Luke 2...) together with really beautiful watercolor illustrations (look for hidden monsters in the dark "valley of the shadow of death" and the face of Christ veiled in the beautiful sunset over the sea in "I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.")would make this a fast favorite in any Christian home.
Update: We found Akimbe (how he spells his name.) on our trip and had him autograph our copy. He had not seen the book yet so we got to share it with him and his family for the first time and left a copy for him. Moser really captured his likeness.

I loved the illustrations

I thought the illustrations were great. Not at all the standard pictures of shepherds and sheep. But I bought it as a way for my one-year-old grandson to learn Psalm 23 while his mother read it to him. He did not care for the book. Maybe when he's older.

A Wonderful Rendition

I have always loved this illustrated version of the twenty-third psalm and make sure to give it as a gift to both individuals and to the church library. It is superb!
