About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from the family home and studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

Flap Books are Always Fun but the Story is Lacking Much

I was pretty excited to see The Bernstain Bears Get Ready for Christmas book in my mail. Then when I saw the "Lift-the-Flap" aspect, I was pumped. My kids love to lift the flap to discover items.
Sadly, the book didn't do it for us.
The story follows the Berenstain Bears through the house finding missing manger set pieces. The pieces are found behind various objects which the reader can view behind the flaps. Most of the sentences include, "Here is the ____ piece." At the end, the Bears have collected all allowing them to set up the manger. The story contains no plot or climax. On a side note, I also found it a little cumbersome to call the Wise Men, the "wise bears."
Unfortunately this is not a good representative of typical Berenstain Bear books. Although I highly recommend many of the Stan and Jan Berenstain books, this one by their son Mike is not one that I would suggest.

Great book for kids for Christmas

The Berenstain Bears Get Ready for Christmas
Another precious Berenstain Bears book! And the bears want to set up their manger scene for Christmas this year so they take off to look for each piece of this special part of Christmas. So we journey with the bears throughout their house to find these parts of the Christmas scene.
I love that this book is so very simple. At first I thought it was too simple, but when I read it to my 2 ½ year old niece, and she wanted me to keep reading it so she could help the bears find the manger scene, I realized that it has to be simple for this little ones to understand. Abbi now know who makes up the manger scene,that Jesus wasn't born in a hospital but in a barn like her uncle Robert's barn, and cows like uncle Robert's, a donkey like her real donkey Jack, and other animals belonging to family members. She loves to lift the tabs looking for the pieces. In fact, she finally is now reading the book to me and letting me see what is under the tabs.
I'm excited that this adorable book will teach children everywhere this simple but the most important reason we celebrate Christmas, this place where Jesus was born.

Fun for younger readers especially

We enjoyed this book. I've enjoyed the Berenstain Bears since I was a little girl, and I'm glad to see that my daughters enjoy them as well. The book is short enough to keep the attention of young readers (ages 2-5 is the recommended age group), and the illustrations are fun. What's really fun about this book is that on every page the children will get to lift the flap to see what's hidden underneath as the Berenstain Bears gather all the sculptures from the bear manger scene which celebrates Jesus' birth.
Coco liked that the book is about celebrating God and the birth of Jesus. Lulu liked following the bear family as they looked for all the pieces of the manger, as well as the final page where the manger comes together.
We will read this book again and again as we get closer to Christmas.
